haha, irwin was the perfect mix of education and entertainment though, he was brilliant. wildlife documentarys can be incredibly boring but him dicking about with snakes was entertaining. a few people might deserve death-by-stingray but i dont think he was 1 of them. I'd have to say mark 'chopper' read is my aussie hero tho and i recently read that hes only got 2-5 yrs to live, cuz he got hepititis in jail cuz they used to make the prisoners share razors. so he needs a liver transplant but he's refusing one cuz he said other people wud deserve it more than he does. but if i was him id just take the fuckin liver

YAYYY. divorced parents + uni in london = muchos loanage. I'm not fully up to date with loan stuff, but with a student loan don't you only pay back a tiny amount each month unless you start earning big bucks? And then if it's not piad off by the time you're like 50 it gets written off? I could be (and probably am) wrong tho. If I could get a £30,000 loan at student rates i'd snap their freakin hands off!
I definitely don't earn big bucks and I pay back £70 a month.

I have to disagree. Number one things you do not do to a sting ray is to make them feel threatened or box them in. He did both, it killed him. End of story. I don't agree with people fucking with animals as human entertainment. Respect them and they'll leave us alone too.
Even my uncle who lost most of his right arm to an alligator here in FL realized afterwards it was his own fault. And even while he was in the hospital with little hope of having his arm "returned", he PLEADED for the life of that alligator because of it. Now that is an educated naturalist. Not Steve Irwin.

meh, i dont think he fucked about with them as such, picking up a snake and letting it go again isnt too different from fishing, but on land, without fish, if u get me, haha. i dont really care, i just thought he was amusing, he didnt really piss me off, and id say he was pretty harmless. i dont think he went home at night to a big bowl of shark-fin soup or anything. theres other people out there who fuck about with animals more, and are more deserving of death-by-stingray.
i dunno why but this just reminded me of this tv show that was on when i was little and it was all about survival and stuff, and i used to watch it then go out in my garden and eat leaves and sand. bon apetite. which is pretty mild compared to Bear Grylls. Anyone else seen the episode where he drinks the water out of a dead camel's guts, then cuts open its stomach and drinks the water from its stomach contents; squeeezing the water out of the poo/grass into his mouth, then climbs inside it and uses it as a tent?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64wBr5JGAxk
anyway, back to the topic of the exchange rate and its horrors, its on the up today, to a glorious 1.79, phwooar. think i might get me one of these:

Maybe you missed the incident where he was feeding a crocodile a chicken while holding his newborn? The man clearly had a screw loose. If I was his wife I would have kicked his ass then divorced him for that stunt.

Steve Irwin was awesome. His tv shows and zoo did no end of good in creating interest and educating both children and adults about reptiles and all animals and if his efforts even encouraged just one person to continue with his work then I think it was worth while. Amongst other things he did a lot of work relocating troublesome crocs/snakes that might otherwise have just been shot and as I understand it his Brisbane Zoo was also an animal hospital and rescue centre.
Holding his kid while feeding the croc was a bit unnecessary though!

Gato, it's hard for me to understand something, maybe you can help me out. You know we both like black metal, and those dues are involved in murder and arson. But you get freaked when a guy puts a baby near an animal he works with every day? I know people whose parents were much more dangerous to be around at that age than an animal.

Not really sure how a thread about the dollar got turned into a Steve Irwin bash, may he rest in peace.
Look I just have to say that maybe on telly he did come across as a wanker, but what he and his family have done over here for the preservation of native land, flora and fauna is extraordinary. He really did have a deep respect for all animals and their native habitats. His father is continuing Steve's conservation work, raising funds to buy back land from developers. Yeah maybe he was not everyone's cup of tea, but you really can't take away from the awesome work that he did!

I'm not saying anything else on this topic, I already said too much. I'll just leave it at... I don't miss him.
