So we're going on a little road trip post Fest. First Halloween in New Orleans then pretty much 10 days of wherever the hell we want.

Our current plan is to go up to Tennessee via Alabama then back down taking the scenic route along the Mississippi. Or the other way round.

Any suggestions of where to visit? I really want to go to Dollywood but apparently it will be closed mid week in November. Gutted.

This sounds like a LOT of time in the car, which also means a LOT of money on gas. Google Maps is telling me the drive from NOLA to Nashville is nine hours, which is a couple days if you want to make any side trips in Ala. I lived in Ala for four years, it's a tremendous amount of nothing and rural towns interspersed with a couple bigger cities. I don't know if you'll want to stop to see anything in Montgomery (First White House of the Confederacy and sundry Civil Rights landmarks) or Birmingham (Vulcan statue, Sloss Furnace, Moss Ross park, a giant Nice Guy trope I am no longer speaking to, and some other stuff I didn't visit when I lived there) on your way up to Nashville.

When you shore up your plans, I can suggest places to eat :)

I looked at a past post and you said you're flying back out of NOLA. I loved Memphis and Nashville, so def spend a couple days there. The Ryman Auditorium is ballin' and there's delicious barbecue and lots of music history other things I saw but don't remember. Vanderbilt Uni is in Nashville. It's one of the more prestigious schools in the U.S. (I thought I read you're from England, please excuse me if I'm wrong) and the campus is nice to walk around. A tour of the Grand Ole' Opry is $20. It was cool, but $20 is a lot.

Driving back through Miss is basically going to be a lot of flat nothing. I think it looks a lot like Alabama. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a sidetrip to check out at least one bayou/swamp in Louisiana. It will blow your mind. They stretch forever and are SO lovely and wonderful and remind me of growing up in a swamp in Fla. If you rent a canoe/kayak for a couple hours you will not regret it. And fried gator tail is delicious if you're brave enough to try it :)

Hope this helps!
