I'm trying to figure out what would be the cheapest place in town a couple of weeks from now. I just want one night away from my roommates...

I suggest you buy a case of beer and knock around in the student ghetto, someones bound to have a couch to drink said beers on and subsequently pass out on...Worth a try..

If you can sleep comfortably in your car (it's an SUV or larger. Or you're a dwarf) find yourself a campsite. They're cheaper/safer than budget motels, and you can make a nest in the back and watch Disney movies on your laptop. This is how I do road-trips, and it is awesome. Hotels.com just gave me a decent selection for less than $50 if you're staying May 1. I would make sure to wait until the graduation crowd peters out, so you get the best rate.

well, I don't have a car, and I'm really looking for a specific day... when a friend might come to visit... who also doesn't have a car.

Red Roof was pretty cheap last time I stayed there. It's right near the highway.
