Well, I'll say it now, or 50 years from now: Lance, RIP. Damn.

We should dedicate the Fest in memory of Lance for sure.
It's never good to hear this sort of thing.

I heard the news yesterday and felt stunned. Today it's really setting in.

I cannot claim to be the biggest J church/Cringer fan, but as a music and punk enthusiast my admiration for Lance is unending. He came about in a scene that flourished with talent, from Green Day to Cometbus to Hahn to Tim Armstrong, the East Bay in that era was not made-up of just great punk song writers, but great songwriters period. I often think of it as our Brill Building. Punk is an ageist community, where youthful nihilism is celebrated far to frequently and as I head toward my thirties I begin to listen to the wise men of our scene for advice. From Ted Leo to Sleater Kinney to Avail, I have found sound and hoepful words, and as I begin to think more and more of my own mortality J Church's Horror of Life has been reaffirming statement. So thanks Mr. Hahn and to all the real J Church/Cringer fans out there I am sorry. It surely is a sad day.

j church was a band i got into way to late. i never got to see them and i'll regret that forever.
it seems really unfair that a dude like lance never got to play a last show.

there is now a site dedicated to lance that will have information on his memorial, a link for donations, and a place to post messages and submit photos. it's still bare bones, but we're working on it. both of these addresses will get you there:
