I've lived in a ton of different places, but nowhere is as odd as orlando. there's good bands, good people, even decent venues...but no sense of community. I always thought I was spoiled growing up in a mid-west college town (Lawrence, KS). But Orlando crowds all seem too cool to get down at the shows they paid to get into...what's the point?
I'm convinced now though that orlando has too vagrant a population to have any real community. They destroy historical landmarks in the interest of growth. They kill anything that doesn't fit into the republican mindframe, yet support for GayDays and such...it never made any sense. Cops are militant, everything's expensive and nobody does much to make it worthwhile anymore.
Wall Street Plaza used to have punx everywhere, venues and such, then they imposed a curfew and put metal spikes on all the planters to keep the punx from congregating. Then you have places like the Edge that turned into a county bar or Will's that folded to the valuation of their property (gentrification...ghetto to glam).
Then you've got areas that should be, or were, good neighborhoods that the property values are too high to buy in and the crime is climing in the hundreds of percent every year...WTF?!? Seriously, the Orange County Sheriff was on ABC News talking about their new ranking in the highest growing murder rate...I didn't care until I had kids.

That's why we said "fuck this" and moved out of town. I bought a huge ass old house on an acre of land in a little Mayberry town for the same price as a two bedroom condo in the ghetto of what used to be a good suburb (Winter Park)

I have tried to be proud of Orlando for twelve years now...but it's just not gonna happen. I'm in the 352 area code now and couldn't be prouder. I still drive to Orlando everyday for work and it's totally worth the drive, but fuck living there ever again.

Oh yeah, and it's funny how these posts start out and where they end up.

I can't believe Kevin Beary is still Sheriff, he is completely useless and just spends all of the funds flying first class to all these "conventions" instead of using it to help the county in any way. I think they said one year he was only in orange county for about 3/4 months. I lived on the other side of Orlando (winter garden, windermere area) and while the crime isn't bad its got to be the most boring place alive if you don't get excited over smoking pot or hanging around the mall (hot topic is a whole different discussion in itself) probably why me and my friends just sat around and played video games throughout high school while occasionally catching a show at wills or back booth

you pretty much hit the nail on the head with Orlando, i can't see myself ever wanting to live there after college. The one thing I did like was Ska shows used to be a lot of fun but it seems that died out when Spitvalves disbanded, either that or all the kids forgot hot to dance.

Boston show just sold out recently. Shit'll be bangin!

I just bought some off ticket master a half an hour ago. But it did take some looking. I was admittidly worried.

Weird. The box offices at Macys said they were sold out, and I didn't see any place to still get them online. Where'd you go? I still know people who are looking for tickets.

Macy's told me the same thing when I went there. I was pretty pissed. When I called ticket master and then checked livenation's site both didn't have any. So I went on ticketmaster's site and just kept searching and searching and some came up eventually so I bought them. Someone must have tried to buy them but didn't have the funds so they were released for purchase again. I guess I just got lucky. And from what I understand The Roxy doesn't have a box office, so no one would be able to purchase tickets at the venue if that's what they're thinking. It's due to it actually being a nightclub and not a concert venue I'm sure.

I was only in orlando for a few days when i flew into/outta there for Fest four, but i hated the place. Seemed like everyone was 60+, all the streets were paved with gigantic billboards and i just couldn't find anywhere too cool. It gave me a major culture shock, much more than arriving in NYC or boston or anywhere else.

I hear ya, I think I'm more sore than yesterday. The bruises are making themselves at home.

Guitarmaggedon was AMAZING! Hearing 'True Believers' with Hause and Yemin on guitar was great. Who was the other guy? And how does Hause steal the show when it's not even his band playing, haha.
