Two years ago in Nashville I went through my buddy's graphic novel collection and read about 6 volumes of this comic called The Walking Dead. It was thoroughly engrossing but after I finished I didn't look into it much. Fast forward to last week, and my neighbor/dear friend Jason handed me the Compendium #1, a coffee table size book with the first 50 issues.
I've since read volumes 9 - 11. Anyone else really pumped on this shit? When I start reading, I can't put it down. Apparently AMC is making a series based off the graphic novel now and it's supposed to be really good.

Yeah, dude. I started reading The Walking Dead a few issues in and have been hooked ever since. The show being developed for AMC looks way cool and is being written/produced/directed by Frank Darabont (the guy that did The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile). The first season's going to be 6 episodes and contain the story arc from the first 12 issues of the book.

Check out the trailer that premiered at ComicCon:

I stumbled upon it last night, it looks great. The fact that it's Darabont's baby makes the anticipation even greater for me. The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption are unfuckwithable.

I'm completely relying on my neighbor to buy them, read them, and let me borrow them as they are released. He's a super nerd but I live vicariously through him. I don't even know where the local comic book store is here. Anyway, the whole cannibal situation was almost as fucked up as the Governor. That dude....christ.

I read it monthly from issue 13-48, then my life changed a bunch and I couldn't keep up with it anymore. I bought the Compendium, and figure I'll just wait until Volume 2 comes out to catch up again.

I think I sold some of my individual issues, but I still have most of them left (if not all of them, it's hard to remember). Anyone want to buy them, or a ton of other comics, let me know.

I am totally out of the loop on the comics world, it seems crazy to me that a TV series is actually coming out really soon.

i started with the early 20's, bought the earlier trades for the whole story, went until late 50's or early 60's single issueing it, then i decided to buy a house with my dad and that's consistently eating away at any disposable income i might have. luckily there's a bunch of nerds in tampa that lend me their trades, so i'm up to like issue 70 i think and issue #75 just came out.

anyone read anything by Jason Aaron or Scalped?

Phil, i'd have to look through my walking dead issues, but if i can afford it and you end up having some early ones i don't have, i'd be interested. what other comics ya got?

actually, I quit my job, moved away from any comic shops, and went back to school.

I definitely do not have issues 1-12, but I'm pretty sure I still have most of the issues from 13 onward. I really need to do some inventory.

Most of my comics are from 2003-2008. Almost the entire Ultimate line, Daredevil, Invincible, Powers, The Goon, some Vertigo stuff (though I already unloaded Y: The Last Man and Fables).

seriously, I need to do inventory, and when I do, I'll post it on here.

just kidding with ya.

no rush on the inventory, i'll look through my walking deads to see what early issues i don't have and would be interested to know what other Vertigo stuff you have. it's probably the most consistent company out there.

Scalped is probably my favorite crime comic ever next to 100 Bullets, and Jason Aaron deserves all the recognition he gets from his writing. He got me back into Marvel comics with Ghost Rider and his Wolverine stuff.

one of the best writers out there today. have you checked out his other stuff like The Other Side? i'd like to see him write on X-Force too.

Yeah dude, The Other Side is what got me interested in his work. I think he's exclusive with Marvel now (aside from creator-owned stuff like Scalped), so putting him on an X-Men team book will (probably) happen eventually.

What else do you read? I'm mostly into the indie books (Vertigo, Top Shelf, Drawn&Quarterly), but some of the superhero shit has been catching my eye lately. Mostly because they're bringing in all of these indie creators with fresh perspective and new ideas for the characters. Yeah, I'm a nerd.

like I said, I am pretty damn out of the loop. I'd love to get back into comics really hard one day, but it seems like I'd have way too much catching up to do. So much easier for me to just buy TPBs.

I do like a lot of indie comics. I really wish Jason Lutes would hurry up and finish Berlin.

I was reading Walking Dead fairly regularly from around 30 to around 60...but I'm out of the loop now. The only comic I'm current on right now is Hellboy...

I need to go start a pull list.

i got started with x-men/wolverine/ghost rider back in the early 90's so i'm a sucker for them. started to get into Bendis' avengers but got out of that. loooooove Vertigo. DMZ, Y: the last man, Scalped, Fables. haven't had a chance to read the new Demo yet. Walking Dead... have you checked out Garth Ennis' The Boys? it got dropped from Wildstorm for being more fucked up than Preacher and is on Dynamite now. really want to get into more independents/smaller companies.

have you read Blankets or checked out Wood/Ryan Kelly's limited series Local or another trade Teenagers from Mars? all of those were really good self contains.

I really enjoy the Walking Dead comics. I've been buying the hardcover book collections as they come out.

I was nervous when I heard about the live action mini-series but the trailer makes it seem like it could be really good.
