let me tell you - in a lot of bars on this planet its specific... I noticed that breweries don't sponsor bars so much or at all in the states.. over here they do and when you order a beer you simply get this one on tap, which is normally the cheapest as well...

This might just be my pet peeve. I'd likely pour you the most expensive one out of spite :)

haha I should make another do not on my list:
Do not order beer at Hawkgirl at 1982... you get the most expensive one and tip is not a thank you for good service - its just avoiding worse service ;-)

beside all joking: when I came the first time over there - I simply didn't know most of the beers you had at 1982, never even had a PBR before.. don't mind checking out new thing, so if I order a beer I just expect to get the local one I don't know yet.. also I at least can't remember seeing a list with the prices of the different ones (but probably just missed it ) so if I would pick it always the chance I pick out a rather expensive one..

and yeah tipping here is not so common, so its strange to tip at every beer.. here I tip at the last one of the night (okay the two bars I go most make just a lsit of what I had and I pay in the end anyway).. I'm definitly into tipping when someone gives me a recommodation f.e. or if I get a good and friendly service.. I accepted to tip at every beer, but definitly don't like that is just normal and what you are expected to do and don't has to do much anymore with what it should be - a thank you for good service..

There are lists of drinks and prices on the wall. I'll make sure to make it more prominent for Fest.

Ha! I was mostly teasing, as I'd never be rude. We are pretty darn nice at 82. But really, try to decide before the bartender gets to you, specifically at Fest.

At some bars, staff are paid in a percentage of tips only. I guess as a habit, I factor the tip in to the price of each beer. If I can't afford to tip, then I can't afford to go out and drink.

Backup the statement of "DO buy your ticket/pass ASAP". You don't want to wait too long and miss out. Even if you aren't 100% certain you can go, if you can't, there will ALWAYS be someone looking for a pass that you can sell it to. That's a guarantee.

this is mine:

- Do try and eat and/or drink water if you can. I know the big thing for Fest is to function on no sleep and lots of alcohol, but I've deprived myself from food/water on numerous occasions thinking I'd be okay and end up feeling sick. Feeling sick generally takes away from my enjoyment of watching bands and even just hanging out. I'm sure there are plenty of people who can do that and be fine, but if you're like me and know you can't, make sure you take time out to eat something.
*Plus, personally, there's so much fucking good food in Gainesville that most Festers don't get to eat year-round, treat yourself a little!

- Do realize that if you like a large chunk of the bands playing, its physically impossible to be able to see EVERY SINGLE BAND you like. Schedules will conflict. You'll be forced to choose, or maybe miss a band (or part of a band) due to one band you like playing at a venue that isn't terribly close to another.

- Don't be too disappointed if you miss a band you wanted to see. Unfortunately, that's Fest. That said:

- DO make your own personal schedule, and maybe mark who you feel you NEED/can't miss, and maybes. This has worked for me in the past. If there's a band I want to see and its going to be impossible to get into the venue because of a line, it's helped in my favor because then at least I might have a backup option (and likely no/less of a line). That way even if its not a first choice, I do have a band to watch and not be bored.

- DO realize that you may spend a bulk of your Fest time waiting on lines. It sucks, but again, this is Fest.

Oh man, the Venue toilets at Fest 6 got absolutely destroyed, it was one of the grimmest things in recorded history. And there was a club night straighter after, that can't have been pleasant.

Also, Emergen-C, that's just like a Vitamin C additive, right?

If so, seriously? In Florida? Orange capital of the world?

It doesn't appear to be a venue this year, but the restrooms at Rum Runners were nice. If you have to pee really badly, just go there! hah

Well shit, you're right. How did I not see that? So yeah...if you really have to pee, go to Rum Runners and use their restroom and see some smaller bands?

Do not park in that innocuous-looking lot next to the McDonald's by the Holiday Inn. Especially if none of your other friends are in town yet. You'll have to walk past the fucking Kickstand and shell out close to $100 to get your fucking vehicle back.

Maybe it's because I'm old but last year I went on like a 3 week constant drinking bender before the Fest with Danny Hatefuck & when I finally made it to the Fest it made it so on one of the days I was actually sober, I never want to do that again. The Fest is not quite the same when you're not drunk...

I also find taking the red eye from Las Vegas to Florida & getting drunk at the airport waiting for your plane isn't the greatest idea... you have to pee on the plane a lot... when you are on the plane they won't serve you enough beer to keep the good times flowing & when you get to Florida at 6am you feel like poop, maybe my sponsor is right going to the Fest isn't a good idea for my sobriety... fuck him that shit is court mandated any way.

I also think the Fester Molesters from the west coast should charter a party plane next year. It would be like that money Soul Plane.

Plan ahead, mark the bands you want to see.
But, don't let that stop you from randomly walking into one of the smaller venues and discovering some really awesome bands.
Pack lightly! Last year, I decided to bring my computer to make sure I was able to do work from the hotel at night. I did no work. I was too drunk.
Don't be afraid to make new friends! I met people from all over.
Eat locally: Boca Fiesta, Reggae Shack, Gator Dogs, everything is so good, especially for vegans like myself.
Get to the slightly smaller venues a couple hours before the last few bands every night.
