The Misfits were such a great band. They always put me in a good mood.

The Misfits are awesome. I saw them on their 25th anniversary tour in 07. At the end of the show, my mom came inside the venue to look for me and Jerry Only recognized her from high school. That was pretty wild. Too bad she didn't remember him haha.

Nah, my mom was a cheerleader. She probably was too cool for him.
Maybe that's why she's lying about sleeping with him!

It is one thing to talk about how you are insane and another to quite likely be insane. You wanna talk about insane punk rockers, look up some info on John Macias, of the band Circle One. I'm not familiar enough with his story to do it justice, but it's fuckin' crazy.

Comparisons of the Misfits and the Insane Clown Posse are often fraught with emotion, as most who would be familiar with both bands are passionate about one or both of them. We might surmise the average juggalo to say, "well, the Misfits, they're ok, but they're no ICP." Likewise, we can see from the responses on this board the average punk's reaction to even suggesting this comparison. Finally, we can certainly imagine a third camp of mixed-up 21st century adolescents who might say "Fuck yeah, they both rule. Let's go put on some face paint, huff some butane, and set the cat on fire."
However, I would argue that, all emotion aside, the comparison is rather apt, for the folliwng reasons: -Neither demonstrate particularly high levels of musical skill. -Both involve campy horror/retro imagery which one would have be a douchebag to take too seriously, but which various fans have, nonetheless. -Both nominally hail from genres which usually include very personal expressions of angst and alienation, and both eschew this type of songwriting. (e.g., compare "astro zombies" with "what I see") -Both have gone out of their way to signify how completely "hardcore" they are, in an utterly showmanlike fashion (I am reminded of various snippets from live misfits recordings, e.g:"One more fucking time, asshole, you die." or "We gotta tune up- we're pounding our fucking guitars like jackhammers... what do you think we are, lightweights?") -Both have captivated multiple generations of fans with their dress-up antics and iconic imagery. -I would never pay to see either one live, although I wouldn't have minded going to either one's VERY early shows.
For me, however, there still remains a crucial difference: I have always enjoyed listening to the misfits, while I studiously avoid listening to ICP on the off chance that I might have to deal with the consequences of actually kind of liking them.
