What has 6 strings and brings the world together? No, it’s not Werner Heisenberg’s String Theory. It’s the guitar.
Jeff Rosenstock has played a guitar or two in his day. But even he knows they aren’t all the same. “It’s all in the neck, baby,” the 6-string maven told Guitar Dimension Magazine this last Summer. Why the neck? “Because that’s how the canary sings.”
And he’s made a career out of making that canary sing. Guitar rock anthems like “Side Projects Are Never Successful” and “I Don’t Love You Anymore” have made fans out of even the most staunch guitar naysayers. Mississippi Senator Tudd Thumpley (R) said Jeff’s guitar is “electric;” even former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has said that Jeff’s guitar playing sent his “…ass to Mars.” Rockers: fear ye not.
But it hasn’t all been lace and limes. There’s also been some bumps on this road to rock superstardom. “Yeah, my canary just died,” Rosenstock told XM’s Sqizz News in a recent interview. “Something happened to her neck. Guess she just died.”
Jeff’s performance at Fest this year is dedicated to the memory of his recently deceased canary Chutherrs. An intimate wake will be held at Thom’s Pinera Grill (corner of 3rd Rd. & San Reflecto Blvd.) for the songbird immediately following his set on Sunday.
